When did you realize that you are an artist?
I have been drawing and creating art since I was little and it has always been a big part of my life. I always knew that I wanted to pursue art in some capacity. I moved to Toronto to follow my dream and I graduated from the Ontario College of Art and Design. A big turning point in my creative career came after the birth of my second daughter in 2013, when I realized that I wanted to begin painting again. My new found love of painting, and love of giving cards has led to a career in designing greeting cards.
What inspires you and your art?
When creating my illustrations I find inspiration all around me. I am inspired by nature, especially by the beauty of flowers and animals. I am also inspired by my Scandinavian heritage and my three young children that see the world with such wonder. I also draw a lot of inspiration from vintage illustrations.
How does art impact your life?
Art impacts my life in so many positive ways, it is a source of great joy and happiness. Creating illustrations that I feel passionate about, that in turn bring joy to someone or brighten someone's day is what I strive for. Art has also greatly impacted how I spend time with my children, we spend a lot of time being creative together.
What advice do you have for younger artists who are just starting?
The best advice I would give to young artists is to put yourself out there, even if it’s scary. Create artwork that makes you happy. Don’t feel discouraged if success isn’t immediate, it can take time. Just keep on trying to be your most authentic self.
